become a christian
Becoming a Christian is not just about adopting a set of beliefs or following a specific moral code. It's about a relationship with God.
We were all created to be in a relationship with God. But we're all born with a problem--there's sin in our hearts. You don't have to think too hard to recognize that that's true. The problems of the world--greed, lust, injustice, selfishness, and all the
others--are all caused by a tendency to sin that's in us all.
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)
And sin has a cost. The cost is not just the cost of bad decisions or damaged relationships. Sin literally drives a wedge between us and God. It keeps us from having a relationship with Him now and it prevents us from going to heaven when we die. That's why just trying hard to be a good person simply isn't enough. It doesn't deal with the problem of sin.
"The wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23)
God really wants a relationship with us but someone has to pay the cost of sin so it can be forgiven. Jesus came to do that. He was fully a human so His death could pay the sin price for all of humanity. At the same time, He is fully God so He could offer God's forgiveness of sin. His death on the cross and resurrection three days later provides us a way to deal with the problem of sin.
"But God demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us." (Romans 5:8)
And here's the best part--the forgiveness and restoration Jesus offers is available free as a gift. All we need to do is ask for it--tell Him you know you are a sinner and ask Him to forgive you.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us." (1 John 1:9)
