Blended Worship Service

In the fall of 2000 our church leadership council made the decision to combine our early celebration service and late traditional service into one.  Since then we have been experiencing wonderful times of corporate worship together, young and old, a great expression of our church's desire and vision for "community".  There is much freedom in what can be employed to help our congregation draw near to God in worship.  With so much freedom comes great responsibility in planning services that are biblical in nature, focus our attention on God, engage the people to participate, are done with excellence and utilize the spiritual gifts in our church.  As God is seeking us as His worshipers (John 4:24), He will guide and instruct us into how we should do what we were created to do.  As we worship Him, we desire to see His face, hear His voice and do His will.  That is our goal.  That is our prayer.  That is our end.

Choir Ministry

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary choir, under the direction of Sandra Collins is an ensemble open to high school age and older and serve regularly in leading worship in the Sunday morning service.  Beyond leading the congregation, the choir consistently presents musical offerings to the Lord varying greatly in musical style and genre, including classical music, sacred anthems, spirituals, contemporary Christian classics and the most recent of contemporary worship music.  They also employ a variety of accompaniments such as piano, organ, orchestral trax and the worship band.  The Sanctuary choir also participates in other special events in the church year such as a Good Friday Tenebrae service, Organ concert and is the core of a larger choir that presents dramatic musicals for Christmas and Easter.  It is a warm group of committed musicians who meet weekly to rehearse (Wednesday evenings at 6:45 pm).  There is no audition and it is open to all who have a desire to sing and commitment to be faithful.

Worship Team Ministry

Vocalists:  The Worship Team is the primary leadership for the contemporary element of our worship service.  It consists of 3-5 singers, male and female, who sing on individual mics.  Their calling is to lead the congregation by example with their voice and expression, consistent with a life that reflects a heart devoted to God in all things.  WT vocalists are required to be in the choir and so rehearse with the choir as well as on Sunday mornings before Sunday School.  They are encouraged to develop their vocal abilities as well as stay abreast of current and new worship music and styles.  An individual audition is required for this ministry.

Instrumentalists:  Perhaps nothing sets the musical tone for our contemporary worship more than the worship band.  The band usually consists of drums, bass, keyboard or piano, electric guitar and acoustic guitar.  At times we have incorporated sax or trumpet when they are available.  As with the vocalists, these musicians are called to lead the congregation with their instruments sensitive to the Spirit of God and attentive to the direction of the worship leader.  Rehearsals happen on Sunday mornings before Sunday School, but each player is encouraged to sharpen their skills through individual practice so they can better contribute and know how to fit in the ensemble.  An individual audition is required for this ministry.

Vocal and Instrumental Solo Ministry:  We regularly schedule special music for both morning and evening services as well as special events.

Vocal:  Vocal soloists are encouraged to choose music that will go with the theme of the service, memorize their music, and arrange for their accompaniment.  Styles can vary greatly, but stay within the general format of our blended worship style.  We also encourage duets, trios, quartets and ensembles to prepare music or a service or special event.

Instrumental:  Instrumentalists can include solos, duets or ensembles, and again vary greatly in their styles, from classical piano solos, violin duets and organ volunteers to guitar solos and worship band specials.  These serve as prelude and postlude music or as offertories or communion music.
